Neurotoxin FAQ
“Which areas of my face can be treated?” is one of our most-asked questions about Botox and Daxxify. Before we answer, here’s how neurotoxins work: Think about the muscles you use when you furrow your brow, frown or squint. Over time, these repeated muscle contractions can create visible wrinkles. Botox and Daxxify work by temporarily reducing the muscle movements in these areas, thus temporarily softening the appearance of the lines they can cause. With neurotoxin, you’ll look like you, but with fewer noticeable lines.
Frown Lines
Frown lines typically appear as a set of vertical, parallel lines between the eyebrows. Because of their tendency to resemble the number 11, frown lines are often called “the elevens.” The scientific name, however, is glabella or glabellar complex. The glabellar complex is the name for the group of muscles between the brows that, with repeated contraction over time, cause the formation of visible frown lines, or elevens.
Crow’s Feet
The second area where you can get treated is the outer eye area, otherwise known as crow’s feet. Crow’s feet are a web of lines that often originate at the corner of the eye and span outwards, kind of like spokes on a wheel. These lines are typically caused by laughing, smiling or squinting. You might think that you don’t squint very often, but you’d be surprised: squinting can be triggered by something as simple as looking toward the sun or reading your computer or mobile device.
Forehead Lines
As the name suggests, forehead lines appear as horizontal lines that run in one or more rows across the mid- to upper-forehead depending on your personal anatomy and facial structure. They are often the result of repeated eyebrow-raising, whether in surprise or shock, or subconsciously in support of other areas of the face. Neurotoxin can be administered in precise points on the forehead to temporarily reduce the underlying muscle activity, which will temporarily smooth the appearance of the associated forehead wrinkles.
