Platelet Rich Plasma

Also known as the Vampire Facial, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a noninvasive, regenerative treatment that utilizes your own growth factors to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and improve texture and tone. PRP is loved by celebrities for its age-defying results, and can also be used on the scalp to stimulate new hair growth.

PRP Introduction
PRP is a natural product created from your own body. A small amount of blood is drawn from you and placed in a sterile tube that is spun down in a centrifuge to separate the growth factors, platelets and stem cells from the rest of the blood. Red and white blood cells are divided from the platelets and the plasma (the clear fluid). This plasma now contains a higher than normal number of platelets and is called platelet rich plasma, or PRP. Once this anti-aging mixture is obtained, it can be topically applied to the skin after microneedling or it can be injected into the targeted areas, such as the face or the scalp for hair restoration.

The Science Behind PRP
Platelets are the cells in the blood that help tissue to heal and grow new cells. The PRP, injected into specific areas of the skin, act as a matrix that promotes your own collagen to grow, regenerates tissue and thus acts to naturally smooth and improve the skin. In this way, PRP softens wrinkles and creates smoother skin texture and tone.

How PRP Can Be Used
PRP is able to address a variety of cosmetic concerns in areas of the face and scalp that can be difficult to treat with other noninvasive techniques. The most popular uses of PRP include:

  • Improving skin texture
  • Adding volume to the face, hands and neck
  • Treating fine lines and wrinkles around and below the eyes
  • Plumping up undereye grooves
  • Minimizing wrinkles and lines around the mouth
  • Improving acne scars and stretch marks
  • Hair loss and restoration

PRP therapy can be combined with micro-needling and laser treatments, to best target your unique needs and thus achieve the final goal of younger looking skin. Maintenance PRP treatments may be needed over time.

PRP Hair Restoration
PRP contains growth factors that stimulate the hair follicles and can encourage more active hair growth and thickness to the hair shaft. Treatment is suitable for both men and women.

What to Expect After PRP Treatment
The goal of PRP therapy is to improve skin tone and texture, tighten skin, soften lines and reduce pores. Results begin to show within a few weeks after the treatment session and continue to improve with time. Three treatment sessions are generally recommended, spaced one and two months apart, to achieve the best outcome.
